What is the NDIS?

National Disability Insurance Scheme

The NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) provides information and services, connections and funding for people with disabilities. Individualised support and services are provided for eligible Australians with permanent disabilities who require assistance on a daily basis. The scheme is administered by the NDIA (National Disability Insurance Agency).

Your personalised NDIS plan will outline the kind of support services, assistive technology, or treatments you require to achieve your personal goals and live a full and independent life. The NDIS funds ‘reasonable and necessary supports’ to help you achieve these goals.

To be eligible for NDIS support, you must:
– Be under 65 years of age
– Be an Australian citizen or resident or permanent visa holder
– Meet the disability or early intervention requirements.

If you are over the age of 65, the NDIS does not provide assistance as there is support available through the Commonwealth Aged Care system.

For more details about eligibility for NDIS, visit the NDIS website

Assistive Technology and NDIS
A great resource for Australians with a disability is the NDIS Assistive Technology program. NDIS Assistive Technology covers a wide range of products. It can include simple tools to help you hold things in your hand, safety features installed in your home, or technological devices like wheelchairs.

  • Lift chairs and seating – Find comfort and mobility. From stable chairs to electronic lift chairs, we can tailor a model to suit your personal needs and design preferences.
  • Hospital beds – Get a good night’s rest with our adjustable, durable assistive bed range. Hospital beds make getting in and out of bed a less strenuous task for both users and carers.
  • Daily living aids – It may be something as simple as a pencil holder, larger handled silverware, or a tool for picking things up off the floor. Whatever you need, the right daily living aid can assist you to lead a more comfortable life.
  • Oxygen solutions – Our oxygen concentrators, accessories, nebulisers and suction pumps are manufactured by the best brands on the market. Our range of respiratory aids will help you achieve increased independence while ensuring optimum oxygen support. We can provide advice on the most appropriate device for you based on your respiratory needs, surroundings and lifestyle.
  • Pressure care – Our selection of pressure care products assist people with sleeping and sitting comfortably, lowering their risk of pressure-related injuries.
  • Bathroom aids – Bathroom modifications to include assistive aids will maximise your safety and prevent falls, particularly if you struggle with balance or mobility issues. From bathing and toileting aids to shower and bedside commodes, maintain your independence and privacy with our extensive range of bathroom aids.
  • Exercise and physio aids – Managing a disability or recovering from an injury often requires physiotherapy, rehabilitation and exercise. We offer a vast array of pain relief and recovery devices, suitable for use both at home and within a healthcare facility.
  • Falls prevention – Falls happen, but it is possible to implement preventative measures to help avoid fall-related injuries. Fall response devices can be part of your essential assistive technology equipment, helping you to live more comfortably, with greater peace of mind.
